Sea of Glass
by Daniel S. Warner, pub.1888
We stand upon the sea of glass,
That’s mingled with Jehovah’s fire;
Our robes are white, our feet as brass,
We stand upon the foe’s empire.
We stand redeemed upon the sea,
And sound aloud the harps of God;
All glory, praise, dear Lamb, to Thee,
For Thou hast saved us by Thy blood.
We bow no more to gods of men,
We shout the vict’ry o’er the beast;
Yea, o’er his mark and o’er his name
We overcome through Jesus Christ.
Upon this bright and glowing place
Of heaven’s truth and burning love,
Our souls in glory ever reign,
With all the ransomed host above.
In sweet and pure unbroken peace,
Upon the sea we glide along;
Our hearts so full of holy bliss
Flow out in everlasting song.
Every lighthouse in my collection is special. Some more than others. The one pictured above was given to me by a very special lady. She was a perpetually jolly, genuinely Christ-loving, truly humble, and passionate Gospel-proclaiming soul. On occasions, I look at this little glass lighthouse and pause to honor the memory of who was in life, Gilberte Druard Mayorga a.k.a. Gill (pronounced, Jill).
Gill went to be home with the Lord a short time after being diagnosed with Cancer. Her departure, even though celebrated as her graduation into eternal glory, left a little void that occasionally brings tear-jerking nostalgic memories.
I am not sure if Gill knew how to drive or if she ever drove before. But those of us who knew her can testify that we frequently saw Gill walking (in any kind of weather) with her son all over town.
Whenever I look at this lighthouse and think of Gill I envision her in a disease-free immortal body walking the streets of gold (in heaven) and gazing at the marvelous sea of glass. This is the blessed hope of all those who have confessed Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
I could elaborate on the theology of what the Apostle John saw and described as something that appeared to be a sea of glass and on when we will actually get to behold such a site, but this devotion would become a rather lengthy post. So, instead, I will encourage you by reminding you that this is a trustworthy documented prophetic vision of a heavenly panorama; something that will be witnessed by every believer on the day they enter eternity in their glorified bodies.
Studies show that walking helps increase cardiovascular and pulmonary fitness, reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke, and improve the management of conditions such as hypertension, high cholesterol, joint and muscular pain or stiffness, and diabetes. Plus, it helps in maintaining a healthy weight. But no matter what life-extending benefits walking may provide, it cannot ward off every illness nor can it reverse the inevitable process of aging. The human body is mortal, corruptible, and will eventually reach its appointed life-span here on earth. As despairing as this may sound, the joyous part of it is that believers can rest in the promise of a new incorruptible body. A body that will allow us to enter a place where there will be no more pain, crying, or death; a place where we will be in the very presence of our God, Creator, and heavenly Father.
I know I will someday enter this place and will once again see Gill. Until then I can only look forward to walking alongside her and other loved ones while marveling at the heavenly sea of glass. How about you? Are you confident that you will enter? If not, all you have to do is found in THIS LINK.
Prayer: Dear heavenly Father, I look forward to the day when I am in your presence; the day when the ills of mortality will be no more. On that day, my eyes will witness not only the glorious wonders of heaven but most important, the glory of your eternal light. Until then, may the light you have deposited in me shine ever so brightly helping others to find their way to your saving arms.

“When this corruptible body is clothed with incorruptibility, and this mortal body is clothed with immortality, then the saying that is written will take place: Death has been swallowed up in victory.” – 1 Corinthians 15:4 [CSB]
“And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying: “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man, and He will live with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away.” -Revelations 21:3-4 [BSB]
“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.” – Philippians 3:20-21
